Accessibility

A garden should be a pleasure to walk through, and so should the site that shows it to you. We build this one to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnifier, or none of those.

The standard we aim at

We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. That is the benchmark most public bodies and courts use, and it is a reasonable floor for a site like this one.

What that means here

Body text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 against its background, and large text at least 3 to 1. Every interactive element has a visible focus outline, so you can always see where you are.

Everything works from the keyboard, including the before-and-after slider, which can be moved with the arrow keys and announces itself to a screen reader. Every photograph carries a written description. Form fields have real labels, and errors are announced rather than only shown in red.

Headings run in order so a screen reader can navigate by them, and a skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content. The layout holds together at 200 percent zoom and down to a 320-pixel-wide screen. If your device is set to reduce motion, the animations do not run.

Where it falls short

A before-and-after comparison is visual by nature. We describe both photographs in words, but the effect of dragging between them does not translate fully.

Photographs of planting can only carry so much in a caption. If a project interests you and you would like it described properly, ask us and we will describe it.

Tell us when something does not work

If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to hear about it — that is a fault on our side, not yours. Tell us the page and what happened.

We will reply within two business days, fix what we can, and in the meantime give you the same information another way: by phone, by email, or in person.

How we checked

We assessed this site ourselves against WCAG 2.1 Level AA using keyboard testing, screen reader testing, and contrast measurement. It has not been audited by an independent third party. We review it whenever the site changes substantially.
